Wake up call!!

Posted by Saima Anees on 9:09 AM
We all had plans, I had planned to submit my mid-term exam paper, others had plans for the weekend. But it all changed on that fateful wednesday 26th of Jan 2011, when Jeddah was literally drowned by heavy rains.

Every family had a story to tell, not a single person could claim to not have been devastated by this rain. ALhamdulillah many survived, but there were some who never lived to see the sun rise again the next day. I pray that may Allah have mercy upon their and our souls (Ameen).

All that is now behind us, and we are now standing in the middle of the messy leftovers of that chaos. We now have to collect the shattered pieces of that once orderly life, put it back together and move on. But is that all !!

Is "moving on" all that is left to do or is there more that needs to be done?? yes there is. Before the "moving on" we should stop and reflect on what we experienced. What did we learn from this experience?

In our day to day life we get so engrossed in our work that we only get to remember Allah five times a day. The rest of the time we're just too busy to make Dhikr or we've got better things to do like "gossiping" (read sarcasm). Calamities like these hit right at the core of our conscience that is hypnotized by the worldly life and provokes us to think that if this is our call than what deeds have we stored in our accounts to show before Allah. All of a sudden all those important plans that we had chalked out and meticulously worked on seem so insignificant and ridiculous. The only thing that matters is what are we to show before Allah.

And that is exactly how our life should be spent thinking as if the very next moment is our last and what have we prepared to present before the All-Mighty. We can make as many plans as we want, manipulate and pull strings just to get it to work right but in the end it is all dependant upon Allah, you may see the end of it or the end of urself. Therefore it is hightime we reflected upon our deeds, became more responsible with our tongues and duties towards others. This was obviously not a final call for those who still survived Alhamdulillah, but take note of it as a wake up call and come to the path of piety.
